DREAM Home Buyers Program

DREAM LogoMore than 1,350 individuals and families have purchased a home through our DREAM Homebuyers Program. More are doing so every week!

Participants in DREAM typically receive $1000 toward their down payment. You must meet HUD's moderate income guidelines (e.g., less than $31,450/year for na single person household, and less than $44,950 for a 4-person houselhold.) Eventually, you must qualify for a loan from a bank or mortgage company.

Also, you must attend our homebuyer education classes, which are held Monday evenings at 7 p.m., and occasionally on Saturdays. Five Monday evenings or two half-day Saturdays are required. You can just come any Monday -- to United Neighbors, 808 Harrison, Davenport. Or, if you prefer Saturdays, call 322-7363 and ask about the next Saturday classes. We can also send you a DREAM brochure!

This year, DREAM participants will have two options:

  1.  Track One will provide basic downpayment assistance.
  1. Track Two will provide repairs and specialized cleaning for lead paint hazards. Depending on the house and the assessment of our program inspector, these can be minor repairs, or may be substantial -- such as window replacement. Track Two participants must allow extra time for this work to be done and must agree to a five-year forgiveable loan for the cost of the work.

“The kinds of things that they’re doing here at United Neighbors,” Edwards said, “are what we can replicate around the country — and we should.”
