Beware of Foreclosure Rescue Scams - Help Is Free! Foreclosure rescue and mortgage modification scams are a growing problem. Homeowners must protect themselves so they do not lose money on their home. Scammers make promises that they cannot keep, such as guarantees to “save” your home or lower your mortgage, oftentimes for a fee. Scammers may pretend that they have direct contact with your mortgage servicer when they do not. The Federal government provides free resources to get you the help you need. What is "Making Home Affordable" all about? The Making Home Affordable Program is part of the Ob ama Administration's broad, comprehensive strategy to get the economy and the housing market back on track. The Making Home Affordable Program offers strong options for homeowners: (1) refinancing mortgage loans through the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP), (2) modifying first and second mortgage loans through the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) and the Second Lien Modification Program (2MP) and (3) offering other alternatives to foreclosure through the Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Program (HAFA) Home Affordable Refinance--This option can help you refinance into a more affordable mortgage if you're paying your mortgage on time but you're unable to refinance to a lower rate because you owe more on your mortgage than your home is currently worth.
